Adventist church built on Bega

Bega, Fiji
Irene Emhofer

A small community on an island off the coral coast of the main island of Fiji was the focus of a recent evangelistic series, which resulted in two families dedicating their lives to God. The island, Bega, had no prior Adventist presence.

Pastor Tom Osborne, who ministers to the Mackay Adventist church in Queensland, heard about this and decided to take the group of church members who had been discussing being part of a "fly'n'build" project to Bega.

The team of church members from Mackay, who spent a week on the island of Bega, constructing a new church as part of a "fly 'n' build" project.

Pastor Osborne and the team introduced the idea of building a church on the island for the new members.
This plan saw 25 church members from three churches in Mackay-Mackay Central church, North Mackay and Farleigh churches-set out to visit the island earlier this year.

Although they only had a short period of time in which to complete the building and bad weather had threatened the project, the church building was completed in less than a week-just in time for the Sabbath meeting.

Church members from the main island made the long journey to the island for the first Sabbath meeting in the new church building.
