Media release: Seventh-day Adventists support Earth Hour 2009
Wahroonga, New South Wales
Earth Hour 2009 is a great opportunity for Seventh-day Adventists across the South Pacific to demonstrate support for creation care and responsible energy consumption, according to Dr Barry Oliver, president of the Adventist Church in the South Pacific.
Dr Oliver is urging more than 400,000 church members living in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and the other island nations to switch their lights off for one hour on March 28.
"Seventh-day Adventists hold the responsibility to care for creation as core to their beliefs," Dr Oliver says."We are reminded of God as being our creator, and celebrate worship of our Creator and Redeemer every week as we worship on the seventh day of creation."
Church members can be part of Earth Hour 2009 by turning off their lights for one hour at 8.30pm on Saturday 28 March. This will reduce the personal carbon footprint of each person participating as well as allow them to be a part of a global event.
