Statement: Appeal for prayers from Samoa

Leone, America Samoa
Ragoso Tagaloa

I am the pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist Church here in Leone where the devastation has taken place. It has been a terrible day for the whole village at Leone and along the coastal towards Poloa.

The house of a church elder and his family in Amanave are completely in ruins, together with the entire village. Another member in Poloa, where houses were along the shores, reports that there are now only shambles and debris from the wreck of the tsunami. Two other families have had sea water entering into their homes. The church will assist in the clean up.

At this present time these families are in government shelters awaiting the assistance from the government and USA. Once the government has assessed the damage, our church will help clean up the aftermath.

There are no reported deaths from our Leone Adventist church. The church is well and we are praying for families who have lost their loved ones in Leone.

I appeal to our Samoan churches, as well as the Adventist family at large, to pray for our nation in Upolu and Tutuila. It is times like this where we are reminded that we are only passing through this world and looking heavenbound for our citizenship.
