Media release: Community day to reveal new plans for Wahroonga Estate
Wahroonga, New South Wales
A Community Information Day will be held on Sunday 17 May, 2009 to showcase the Concept Plan for the proposed Wahroonga Estate redevelopment, incorporating Sydney Adventist Hospital (the San) and the headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific, which is set to reinvigorate the surrounding Wahroonga community and revolutionise live/work communities in Australia.
The information day will be held in a marquee on the front lawn of the San at the corner of Fox Valley Road and the Comenarra Parkway from 10am - 3pm. In the event of wet weather it will be held at Fox Valley Hall. The day will provide the community with the opportunity to view the plans, meet the people involved in the project and discuss any questions they have about the proposal.
"The information day is a good opportunity to gain a better understanding of the proposed plans and discover the benefits the redevelopment will bring to the Wahroonga area," said Keith Johnson, Managing Director of Johnson Property Group who is master-planning the Wahroonga Estate site in a joint venture with the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific.
The $780 million redevelopment of the 66 hectare site will be the first in Australia to offer innovative lifestyle features such as a funded car share scheme - simultaneously eradicating the need for residents to own and maintain cars, reducing traffic congestion and providing obvious environmental benefits.
"We are committed to ensuring that the community is engaged and consulted throughout the process because we want the local community to have input into the plans and be informed about the redevelopment," said Leon Clark, Chief Executive Officer of Sydney Adventist Hospital.
Importantly in a climate of financial crisis, the focus is on supporting health services including employment generation of some 5,000 jobs and providing affordable housing.
"The affordable housing will also enable hospital staff to live close to their workplace, with many being ‘priced out' of the exclusive suburbs that surround the site," said Mr Johnson.
Plans for Wahroonga Estate can be viewed at NSW Department of Planning, Ku-ring-gai Council, Hornsby Council and Turramurra Library. Plans can also be viewed on-line until Monday 8 June, 2009 at www.wahroongaestate.com.au or www.planning.nsw.gov.au
