Cricketing legend bowls InFocus

Cricketing legend bowls InFocus

by Kent Kingston

The Record InFocus film crew was excited to interview Australian cricketing legend, Brett Lee, for the “MyStory” segment of the half-hour news and interviews program. But while program host, David Gibbons, was away at the General Conference Session in Atlanta, Georgia, the film crew cooked up a surprise.

David discovered that not only was he going to interview Brett Lee, but he was also going to face him on the cricket pitch. From his research, David knew that Brett has been known to bowl at speeds in excess of 160 kilometres per hour, only one of a handful of bowlers to crack the magic 100 mile an hour barrier.

There were genuine nerves apparent on David Gibbons’ face as Brett Lee lobbed a few lollipops down the wicket. Brett informed the film crew that he really wasn’t supposed to be bowling at all, after an elbow operation that prevented him from participating in recent tours of the West Indies and England. So sadly, the scorching fastbowls everyone (except David) had been waiting for didn’t materialise. There was a moment, however, when David was forced to duck for cover as a head-hunting bouncer whistled past.

Brett Lee was surprisingly relaxed and approachable, even bringing along his 4 year old son, Preston. In the interview, he willingly chatted about his involvement with ADRA and Weet-Bix, as well as his charity work with children in India and other causes.

The full interview with Brett Lee will be aired on Hope Channel and the Australian Christian Channel (all pay-TV networks, channel 182) on Friday night 30 July. It will also be available under the “View Segments” tab on this website.
