Guides dump God

Guides dump God

Published on: 06 July, 2012

The Australian Girl Guides have decided to replace the commitment in the Girl Guide promise to "do my duty to God" with the commitment to be "true to myself". The move was made to make the Guides “more inclusive". However, excluding God is not seen as inclusive by many Australians.

One alterative to the newly agnostic Guides, is the Pathfinder movement which is more than 80 years old. Similar to the Guides and Scouts, Pathfinders learn outdoor skills, go camping, and learn to appreciate nature, all within the context of serving God and serving each other. Pathfinders is organised by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and meet at local Adventist churches all around the world, including Australia and New Zealand.
